Kitten
Information
It is always an exciting time around the house
when kittens arrive. Kittens are born in a
private nursery off of our bedroom. They graduate to the kitten room where they
start
eating kibble and wet foods. Also, this is where mom teaches them to use the
litter box.
Next, is the trip to the vet and their first shots. Once they have been
vaccinated they
have free run of the house. Bluestone kittens are given all the love they
deserve and
are never caged. At this time we welcome visitors by appointment but, ask that
you
not visit another cattery on the same day. This is for the protection of our
breeding
cats and your future baby.
Going Home
Kittens are usually ready to go to their new homes between 12-14 weeks. By this
time your kitten will have been:
Spayed or Neutered - Please do not ask you your kitten to leave unaltered.
Vet checked, dewormed and given age appropriate vaccinations.
Bluestone Ragdolls also provides:
Written Contract with a two year genetic guarantee
Blue slip registration with TICA and/or CFA

Travel
Upon pick-up, you will need to bring a sturdy
carrier to take your baby home. We
suggest purchasing a carrier that will hold up to 20 lbs. Your baby will not
stay little
very long. A good carrier will be between $20.00 - $30.00 and can be found at
Petsmart. If you really want to spoil you kitten, there are plenty of trendy cat
carriers
on the market.
Nutrition
Your kitten's diet is crucial to its
well being. We feed Felidae and and
Innova Evo available at Petsmart or Petco.

You may switch to any brand food you prefer, but if you choose to change brands,
do so gradually over a 1-2 week period. Dry food should be available at all
times
during the day. You may also add canned food to their diet. We recommend using
ceramic or stainless steel bowls over plastic.
Water
Research shows that one of the best ways to improve your kitten's health is to
get
them to drink more water. We use and recommend the Drinkwell Pet Fountain.
Our cats love it. It is very simple to take apart and clean. Drinkwell may seem
expensive, especially over a dish, but it is definitely worth the benefits.
Drinkwell and accessories are available at Petsmart.
Litter and Litter Boxes
Litter - The brands we use are World's Best and Swheat Scoop. These brands are
safe
for kittens and adults. Our adults use Fresh Step. By the time kittens are 12
weeks old,
they are ready to use a full size litter box. There are many to choose from -
corner boxes,
covered boxes and self-cleaning boxes. Kittens should not use self-cleaning
boxes until
they are 20 weeks old.
Grooming
Routine is a must for
a kitten to learn to accept grooming sessions. We recommend
you clip you kittens nails twice a month and provide you kitten with a
scratching post.
Your furniture will appreciate it. You will also want to comb you kitten once a
week
with a greyhound style comb. Ragdolls do no have an undercoat, so they rarely
mat and a once a week combing should be sufficient.
Cat Trees
One thing you might want to purchase is a cat tree. Cat trees can be expensive,
but
they are definitely worth it. Cats love them. A cat tree serves a couple of
purposes.
Many cat trees have sissel, which can be used as a scratching post. Cats also
love to
climb and love to take a cat nap on its perches. We highly recommend Great Lakes
